Biofilm Minutes - Reverse Osmosis Desalination

Watch the first episode of the new web series by ALVIM!

In seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO), bacterial growth strongly impacts the efficiency of the process. Indeed, biological fouling can decrease permeability of membranes, reduce their lifetime, increase microbial corrosion (MIC) and cause many other issues. To avoid these problems, biocides are commonly dosed in the system. To limit both the degradation of membranes caused by these chemicals, and their environmental impact, the dosage should be based on real needs. To this aim, biofilm monitoring is one of the most effective tools.
